In order to communicate with the Internet via broadband, the usual approach is to employ a router, which sits between your business LAN and the phone line. There are several types of router, depending on the Internet access you need.

Routers can:

  • Have a wired connection to your LAN and to the phone line, or
  • Have a wireless connection to your LAN and a wired connection to the phone line. Wireless routers generally operate at 11Mbps, 54Mbps or 108 Mbps.
